dalālat al-muṭābaqa
دَلَالَةُ المُطَابَقَة
Signification by correspondence is when an utterance signifies the whole meaning for which it was coined.
Draft · awaiting reviewExplanation
The utterance and the meaning match exactly, hence the name muṭābaqa (correspondence).
It is the basis of the other two kinds: an utterance can only signify part of its meaning, or something that accompanies it, because it first signifies the whole.
Also written as: mutabaqa, dalalah mutabaqiyyah.
