Sophistry
al-mughālaṭa
المُغَالَطَة
Sophistry (mughālaṭa) is a syllogism composed of false premises that resemble true ones (mushabbahāt) or of estimative premises (wahmiyyāt).
Draft · awaiting review
Explanation
Its aim is to mislead. It is studied so that it can be recognised and avoided, not used.
Estimative premises judge non-sensible things by the rules of sensible ones; resembling premises look like certain or widely accepted premises without being so.
Also written as: mughalata, safsata, fallacy, sophistical argument.
