Poetics
al-shiʿr
الشِّعْر
Poetics (shiʿr) is a syllogism composed of imaginative premises (mukhayyalāt) that move the soul to desire or aversion.
Draft · awaiting review
Explanation
The premises are not meant to be believed, but to stir the soul: to make something attractive or repellent.
The classical example likens wine to liquid ruby to make it attractive, or honey to bitter bile to make it repellent.
Also written as: shir, shi'r, poetic argument.
